This presentation will focus mostly on using the new breed of digital SLRs to capture video, and the technical advantages and hurdles they present when compared to other devices such as the RED camera and other traditional camcorders. In addition, during a live shoot segment with the participation of a few lucky attendees, Laforet will demonstrate many of the DSLR accessories available to achieve professional results on larger productions. The post process workflow, including video conversion, basic editing and grading will also be demonstrated.

LIZ VON HOENE
Creating My Own Path: My Journey as a Commercial Photographer
Thursday, 1:15 to 3:15 PM

Photo by Liz Von Hoene for Chanel.

Description: Advertising photographer Liz Von Hoene traveled down an unconventional path that eventually led to the super successful advertising career she enjoys today. Join her as she engages audience members with her work and the progression of her style over the years as it leads up to current day, where she likes to bring magic and whimsy to every shoot to create a sophistication that is stylized but not stiff. Von Hoene will also share her unique success in three diverse commercial markets, working with a range of clients that include top beauty brands to fashion advertising to a special assemblage of clients that have nothing do with fashion or beauty. Discover how to market different portfolios, where each book represents a variety of content yet all contain your signature style and approach. Von Hoene will also discuss how she sells her vision to an agency once she is invited to bid on a project and will walk the audience through a few creative “treatments” for specific jobs. She will also share her newest adventures in making “moving” pictures and ensuring that the content and style of the moving imagery matches that same nature of the print portion of a job.

LAUREN GREENFIELD
The Documentary Hybrid in Photography + Filmmaking (sponsored by Canon)
Thursday, 3:45 to 5:45 PM

Description: As the future of print remains in question and the online presence of magazines and newspapers becomes more important, photographers need to consider how to harness new media, video and audio to enhance their photographic work and creative vision. Lauren Greenfield will lecture about her long-term documentary projects and her progression into film for creative impact and educational reach. In that context, she will show her evolution as a documentarian working within the varied platforms of documentary filmmaking, commercial directing, and multimedia producing, as well as the traditional but diversified outlets of magazines, books and museums. Greenfield will discuss the making of her commercials, documentary films and multimedia work; the relationship between her films (THIN and Kids + Money) and her photography, as well as how video and multimedia can deepen the narrative and provide access to a wider audience and a broader spectrum of commercial clients. She will also discuss the synergy of video and still cameras and the technical crossover possible with both. A presentation of Greenfield’s work in film, photography and multimedia will be followed by a Q&A.
